SELF-CARE/WELLNESS AND 2024 ACTION PLAN RETREAT
LBQ+ women and sex workers in Nigeria navigate a complex web of oppression, facing not only homophobia and trans-phobia but also enduring harsh judgment within and outside the LGBTQ+ community. The harsh working conditions, coupled with systemic discrimination, expose them to heightened vulnerability and exploitation. Moreover, the Nigerian context, with about 25-30% of the population grappling with mental health issues and limited access to professional assistance, exacerbates their challenges.
Hence, neglecting our team’s mental and emotional well-being undermines the collective strength of GWHREI and compromises our capacity to bring about transformative change.
