GWHREI join the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day. Theme : “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world.
As we mark this day, note that whether deliberate or unconscious, Bais can make it difficult for women to move ahead.
End discrimination against sex workers, we are women and deserve access to good health care services, housing and accommodation, employment opportunities and justice. We advocate for a world that is equitable and inclusive. In her words during the International Women’s Day Session with Women’s Rights groups, the Gender and Human Rights Officer opined that “A world where women’s voices matter. A world where gender differences are valued and appreciated as such no woman should be left behind irrespective of her sexual orientation, status and vulnerability.”
Speaking on the same subject matter; the Executive Director said “Everyone including Men and Women should break the bias and embrace intersectionality and diversity for all women.”
Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.
Are you in? Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time you see it?
Will you help break the bias?
Cross your arms to show solidarity.
Regardless of gender, International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022 is a beautiful moment for all of us to reflect on and together, we can take it further and make more progress in support of women’s rights socially, economically, culturally, and politically and otherwise.
